The 2012 Reykjavik International Games where a great success. Athletes from sixteen different sports competed in Reykjavik this weekend. The number of participants was around 2.400, thereof about 400 from abroad. Tens of records were set in a hard and exiting competition. Thank you athletes, coaches, organizers and other guests for a fantastic weekend.

At the closing ceremony tonight one male and one female athlete from each sport got a special award. Below is a list of the award winners.

Closing Ceremony tonight

The closing ceremony of the 2012 Reykjavik International Games will take place in Laugardalsholl Sports Hall tonight.

At 19:00 dinner will be served for those who have bought tickets from their event managers. At 20:00 the closing ceremony starts where everybody with the Games wristband can join. First the best athletes in each sport will get an award and then there will be a disco with the most popular Icelandic musician Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson. The disco ends at 23:00.

We hope to see you all at the disco!

Although the Reykjavik International Games 2012 has not officially started yet with an opening ceremony the Games have partly started. Last weekend the competition in Fencing was held in Laugardalur with participants from nine different nations. Many swimmers also took part in a training camp last weekend.


The next event of the Games is a conference about elite training that will take place on Thursday at Reykjavik University. Further information can be found here.


The Opening Ceremony of the Reykjavik International Games 2012 will take place in Laugardalshöll sports hall on Friday January 20th. Light dinner will be served at 19:00 and the ceremony itself will start about 30 minutes later.

The Games have begun

The 2012 Reykjavik International Games officially started last night with a fantastic opening ceremony where athletes from all sports took part. The opening ceremony ended with the singer Regina Osk singing the song of the Games.

Tonight all participants and guests are invited to join the Pool party. The party takes place in Laugardalslaug from 19-22. Click here for further information.

 
Pool party on Saturday

The 2012 RIG Pool Party will take place in Laugardalslaug swimming pool on Saturday January 21st. The fun starts at 19:00 and ends at 21:00.


There will be a lot of fun at the Pool Party, both music and fun competitions. From 20:30 a known Icelandic artists, Friðrik Dór and DJ Birgiss, will be blasting the music. The competitions you can take part in are among other things tug of war and pillow fight.


Last year the Pool Party was a big success with about 1.000 people joining the fun.
