Title of presentation : exploration of the sport psychology programme of a Category 1 English football academy
Siubhean Crowne is a PhD researcher in sport psychology and an accredited sport and exercise psychologist. With experience across multiple sports, age groups and levels. She currently is the Lead Performance Psychologist for Birmingham City Women's Football Club.
Her PhD data collection took place within an English football academy, where she completed an ethnography across three football seasons. There she held the dual role of researcher and practitioner. In her practitioner capacity, she co-created the psychology programme for the u9 to u12 phase, while also contributing to the development and integration of the programme for the u13 to u21s.
While in her researcher role, sustained engagement and integration within the academy expanded the direction of work. She co-created understanding of their psychology programme with the children/young people, while simultaneously considering the social and cultural factors at play too. She strives to hear and platform the voices of children/young people in an environment in which their perspectives remain underrepresented.
